Structure evolution from Prussian-blue nanocubes to hollow nanocage composites via sodium tungstate etching

Abstract: The formation path of hollow complex nanocages prepared via Na2WO4·2H2O etching, using Prussian blue as a template, is tracked, which confirms the existence of a central cross structure inside the etching products.

“…In general, the use of a metal salt rather than a strong base or ammonia leads to slower and more controlled derivatization into hydroxide. This is also a pathway to introduce new elements to the PBA/PBD structure, especially if they do not typically form stable PBA complexes, like Ge, Si, Al, and B in the work of Zhang et al 8 This strategy was also used by Hu et al to form oxide mixtures of Fe and W. 96 By stirring PB cubes with Na 2 WO 4 at 50 °C, Fe(OH) 3 /WO 3− x hollow cages are formed. Through calcination at 550 °C for 6 h, Fe 2 O 3 /W 18 O 49 composites are then obtained.…”

“…For the Fenton process, ozone oxidation, and ionizing radiation, a new peak appearing at about 2088 cm −1 was found in addition to the original functional groups, which is attributed to the −C−N functional group. 39 Moreover, ionizing radiation at 2 kGy showed the highest intensity of −C−N, suggesting that the degradation intermediates with −C−N functional groups formed at 2 kGy could be easily intercepted by the RO membrane. For ionizing radiation at 1 kGy, another new peak was found at about 1724 cm −1 that is ascribed to the −CO functional group.…”

“…Usually, some strong acids are selected for etching to obtain HMPBs. 65,103–106 The HMPBs obtained in this way are partially closed structures. The nanoparticles of the core are irregular, restricting the growth in a certain orientation, or the thickness of the outer wall is too small and partially etched during the etching process to form a certain amount of open area.…”
