Structure and tensile properties evaluation of samples produced by Fused Deposition Modeling

Abstract: This paper presents the result of a study evaluating the influence of alternative path generation strategy on structure and some mechanical properties of parts produced by Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology. Several scientific investigations focused on resolving issues in FDM parts by modifying a path generation strategy to optimize its mechanical properties. In this study, an alternative strategy was proposed with the intention of minimizing internal voids and, thus, to improve mechanical properties. … Show more

“…Part 1: General) [5]. Several authors [3,7,10,11], engaged in problems of steel rope stress, their damage in operation, in experimental and simulation verification for different types of ropes and lay types, prove that rope under stress requires special attention. The stress states resulting from different kinds of loading [3] are often not included in calculations according to standards [1].…”

“…Among the most popular thermoplastic materials used in this process, ABS (Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) and PLA (Polylactic acid) must be mentioned in the first place, but a range of available materials is wide and still expanding [14]. Mechanical properties of products obtained using the FDM methods are strongly anisotropic [9,7] but high enough for use in visual prototyping, mockups or design aids, or even functional products in some cases. That is why there are many potential application areas [6].…”

“…The authors of this work selected one of the most widespread method -Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM), which also is the most economically justified one [3]. It allows manufacturing products out of materials, which can have contact with the human body, are not toxic and ensure good strength and dimensional and shape accuracy [5,2].…”
