Die J‐Blutgruppensubstanz des Rindes ist nicht nur an die Erythrozyten gebunden, sondern findet sich auch in gelöster Form im Blutplasma. Wir haben daher Rinderserum als Ausgangsmaterial für die hier beschriebenen Untersuchungen verwendet. Über die (durch Hemmung der spezifischen Immunhämolyse im J‐System getestete) Anwesenheit der determinanten Gruppe im Totallipid des Rinderserums haben wir schon früher berichtet. Eine Kombination verschiedener Chromatographie‐Verfahren mit der Desacylierung von Esterlipiden führte zu einem Gemisch von Sphingoglykolipiden, die sich als immunologisch hochaktiv erwiesen. Weitere Befunde sprechen dafür, daß die J‐Blutgruppensubstanz im Blutserum als Lipoproteid vorliegt.
