Structure and rheological properties of a xyloglucan extracted from Hymenaea courbaril var. courbaril seeds

Abstract: Hymenaea courbaril var courbaril seed xyloglucan was efficiently extracted with 0.1M NaCl, followed by ethanol precipitation (yield=72±5% w/w). Its amorphous structure was identified by the pattern of X-ray diffraction. The monosaccharide composition was determined by GC/MS analysis of the alditol acetates and showed the occurrence of glucose:xylose:galactose:arabinose (40:34:20:6). One-(1D) and two-dimensional-(2D) NMR spectra confirmed a central backbone composed by 4-linked β-glucose units partially branche… Show more

“…It is noteworthy that according to Bragg's law, a 2.06 nm lattice spacing corresponds to 2θ value near to 20°. The xyloglucan diffractogram presented a typical peak near 2θ = 20°, similar to that found for a xyloglucan extracted from H. courbaril seeds in Brazil (Arruda et al, ).…”

“…The presence of β ‐arabinofuranosyl was confirmed by the peak at δ 5.30 ppm. The overlapping of anomeric signals from β‐ galactose and β‐ glucose at δ 4.58–4.59 ppm and the presence of α ‐xylose at δ 3.4 ppm were confirmed from the previous study (Arruda et al, ). In PWSP, the signal resonating between δ 3.65 and 3.55 ppm attributed to OH and CH group of mannose.…”

“…Xyloglucan was efficiently extracted with the same extraction yield (72 ± 5%), monosaccharide composition and structure as shown in the NMR spectra reported by Arruda et al [2].…”

“…In this case, the values varied from 4.4 to 34.0 m due to the presence of l-ascorbic acid in the interior of the microparticles, leading to filled nuclei. The absence of crystals of cubic form characteristic of ascorbic acid [2] could be related to the efficient antioxidant encapsulation.…”
