Abstract:Sulfur-based red pigments were prepared through the thermal treatment of sepiolite with S and Na2S·xH2O. Samples with [S/Na2S] = 0.5 and 1 molar ratios exhibited red colour due to the presence of [Sx/2]˙− chromophore groups, particularly S4 species.
