This study aims to develop and characterize the nanocomposites using sulfur cross-linked carboxylated styrene-butadiene rubbers (S-xSBR) as the matrix and chitin nanocrystals (CNCs) as nanofillers. The composites' morphology and properties were examined by light transmittances, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA), and tensile properties determination. The addition of CNCs has slight effect on transparency of the composite films. FTIR data confirm the interfacial interactions between CNCs and S-xSBR via hydrogen bonds. CNCs are uniformly dispersed in the matrix from SEM result. The addition of CNCs can significantly improve the tensile strength and modulus both in static and dynamic states. The tensile modulus and tensile strength of S-xSBR/CNCs composites with the 4 wt.% CNCs is 62.5 % and 97.6 % higher than that of pure S-xSBR. The storage modulus, glass transition temperature, and the thermal stability of the composites are higher than those of the neat S-xSBR. The mechanical properties of the composite films are water-responsive, as the swollen samples exhibit obviously decreased strength and modulus. The greatest mechanical contrast is shown in the S-xSBR/CNCs composites with 2 wt.% CNCs loading whose tensile modulus decrease from 60.4 to 6.1 MPa after swelling equilibrium. The significant reinforcement effect of CNCs on S-xSBR is attributed to the unique structure of CNCs and the interfacial interactions in the composite.

This paper studies the transformation of the worker-peasant to reluctant revolutionary industrial worker during the establishment of Iran's copper industry at the Sarcheshmeh copper mine from 1966 to 1979. It explores the procedural rules implemented by mine management, such as coercion and paternalism, and the nature of the employment relationship, including methods of control, bargaining, and dispute resolution. Consideration is given to engagement of different agents with welfare policy and industrial relations, including the nature of capital, the structure of ownership, the path of traditional labor relations, and international contributors on one side and workers’ agency and their structural power in the context of evolving domestic and international environments on the other. Also highlighted is the role played by the workers’ background and economic improvement and how these factors affected their political stance during the 1979 revolution.

Effect of gamma irradiation on the properties of natural rubber latex and styrene‐butadiene rubber latex nanocomposites

Natural rubber (NR)/clay and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR)/clay nanocomposites were prepared by mixing with aqueous sodium montmorillonite (Na 1 -MMT) clay dispersion by different concentrations of Na 1 -MMT ranging from 2 to 10 phr. These nanocomposites were irradiated with gamma radiation at doses from 10 to 100 kGy. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results indicated well dispersion of rubber latex into clay stacked layers and the platelets have a preferential orientation forming exfoliated NR/Na 1 -MMT nanocomposites while SBR/ Na 1 -MMT form intercalated nanocomposites. Irradiation overall irradiation dose range together with clay loading improve the mechanical properties of rubber/ Na 1 -MMT nanocomposites. However, SBR nanocomposite attains its higher value at 50 kGy, then decrease. Also, the thermal stability at 50 kGy is higher than 100 kGy. POLYM. COMPOS., 38:E189-E198, 2017.
