Structure and catalytic activity of a manganese(iii) tetraphenylporpholactone

Abstract: A manganese(III) complex of tetraphenylporpholactone, Mn(TPPL)Cl, was synthesized and characterized, including by single-crystal X-ray diffraction; the catalytic activity of this complex for olefin epoxidation reactions is compared with that of manganese(III) tetraphenylporphyrin chloride, Mn(TPP)Cl.

“…We previously also demonstrated the applicability of this method to the synthesis of dithiaporphyrin- and porphyrin N -oxide-based porpholactones. 17,18 As also shown previously, 6,10,11,12 additional metalloporpholactones are available through metal insertions into the free bases using standard methods (using conventional and microwave heating).…”

“…A comparison of the Ni(II), Cu(II), Fe(III), and Mn(III) complexes of porphyrins 39 and porpholactones 6,7,10 show also their overall similarity with respect to the respective overall macrocycle conformation. The C=O bond length in the zinc porpholactone 5aZn is 1.26 Å and the C-O bond length is 1.40 Å.…”
