Structure and Bonding in Cubic IV–VI Crystals VI. Acoustic and Optical Deformation Potentials

Abstract: Within the six-band p-model by Volkov et al. the acoustic and optical deformation potentials for the band-edge states at the L-points of the Brillouin zone are derived. Numerical results are obtained by means of geometrical arguments and chemical trends of tight-binding parameters. These agree well with experimental and other theoretical results for the optical deformation potentials, but not for the acoustic ones.
