Structure and Application of ED-20 Epoxy Resin Hydroxy-Containing Derivatives in Bitumen-Polymeric Blends

Using light fraction of coal tar (5.75 wt % of coumarone and 44.45 wt % of indene), glycidyl methacrylate and styrene, the coumarone-indene resin with epoxy groups (CIRE) has been synthesized. Monoperoxy derivative of diglycidyl ether Bisphenol A (PO) was used as an initiator. The possible formation of CIRE has been studied on the model systems consisting of PO, glycidyl methacrylate, indene or coumarone, or styrene, or mixture of mentioned compounds. The synthesized product has been investigated as a polymer additive to bitumen-polymer blends (BPB). The effect of CIRE amount, temperature and time on the BPB operational characteristics has been examined. By means of IR-spectroscopy the structures of CIRE, bitumen and BPB were determined.

1 Crosslinking of epoxy-oligoesteric mixtures composed of ED-20 dianic epoxy resin and TGM-3 oligoesteracrylate has been studied in the presence of dioxydiphenylpropane diglycidyl ether modified with adipic acid (DCDER). Crosslinking was carried out at room temperature and while heating at 383, 403 or 423 K using polyethylene polyamine as a hardener. The procedure of DCDER synthesis has been developed. The structural changes were controlled by determining film hardness and gel-fraction content. The chemistry of films formation was confirmed by IR-spectroscopy.Molecular mass (M n ) of the initial and synthesized products was determined using cryoscopy in dioxane [11].

Abstract.1 Carboxy derivative of dioxydiphenylpropane diglycidyl ether monomethacrylate (CDE) containing the fragment of dianic epoxy resin, as well as free carboxy and methacrylic groups has been studied as a component of epoxy-oligoesteric and bitumen-polymeric mixtures. The epoxy-oligoesteric mixtures were investigated using ED-20 dianic epoxy resin, the crosslinking of which was carried out in the presence of polyethylene polyamine. Physico-mechanical properties and chemical stability of the coatings based on epoxy-oligoesteric mixtures with CDE were determined. Bitumen-polymeric mixtures with CDE were studied taking bitumen produced at JSC "Ukrtatnafta" (Ukraine) as an example.
