Structure analysis of new homologous compounds Ga2O3(ZnO) m (m = integer) by high-resolution analytical transmission electron microscopy

Abstract: The crystal structure of a new homologous compound series, Ga 2 O 3 (ZnO) m (m = integer), is determined by high-resolution lattice imaging and high spatial resolution energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis in a ®eld-emission analytical transmission electron microscope. This work was carried out mainly on the compound with m = 9 (digallium nonazinc dodecaoxide), which belongs to the orthorhombic system and has lattice constants a o = 0.33, b o = 2.0 and c o = 3.4 nm. From the extinction rules thre… Show more

“…They are known to form a series of ordered structures known as homologous phases ͑ZnO͒ m ͑In 2 O 3 ͒, where m is an integer with m ജ 3. [25][26][27][28][29] Al-though homologous phases have not been reported for the ZnO-Al 2 O 3 system, it may be present as a metastable structure.…”

“…The exact temperature required depends on the composition and the desired products [99][100][101][102][103]. A large number of syntheses have been performed; and crystal structures were first reported for R = In and Ga, with different M .…”

“…A number of oxide semiconductors form superlattices naturally. These include In2O3(ZnO)k [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17], CaO(CaMnO3)k [18,19], NaxCo2O4 [20,21] and Ga2O3(ZnO)k [22][23][24], where the integer k denotes the order of the superlattice structure. In the ZnO-based superlattices the integer k describes the number of ZnO planes between the indium oxide layers [13,17,25] measured along the c-axis of the ZnO.…”
