Structural Phase Transition in CePd2Ga2under Hydrostatic Pressure

Abstract: The structural phase transition from tetragonal to triclinic structure in CePd2Ga2 compound was studied by means of electrical resistivity measurement under hydrostatic pressure. The shift of the transition to the higher temperature with increasing pressure was revealed: 195 K in 3 GPa compared to 125 K in ambient pressure.

“…CePd 2 Al 2 was reported to undergo the structural phase transition from tetragonal ordered centrosymmetric CaBe 2 Ge 2 -type structure to centrosymmetric orthorhombic Cmma-type structure at T struc = 13.5 K [10]. The structural transition was corroborated by our previous specific heat and electrical resistivity measurements on polycrystalline sample [13,14,15]. Concerning the magnetic properties, CePd 2 Al 2 orders antiferromagnetically below T N = 2.8(1) K with signs of field induced metamagnetic transition around 1.2 T [14].…”

“…Structural study of the whole series at lower temperatures is desirable to reveal any possible tendency which might be related to the hydrostatic pressure application. The temperature of the structural transition increases with applied pressure also for CePd 2 Ga 2 [15].…”

“…The RET 2 X 2 family (RE, rare earth element, actinoid, element of the 2nd group; T, transition metal; X, s-or p-block element) continues to attract attention from scientists due to their different physical properties related to strong electronic correlations such as heavy fermion states, superconductivity, valence fluctuations, unusual magnetic, and non-Fermi liquid behavior [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. Most RET 2 X 2 compounds crystallize in two structure types: CaBe 2 Ge 2 (P4/nmm, a = 4.02(2) Å, c = 9.92(2) Å) [8] and ThCr 2 Si 2 (I4/mmm, a = 4.043(1) Å, c = 10.577(2) Å) [9].…”
