Structural ordering governs stiffness and ductile-to-brittle transition in Al–Li alloys

Abstract: The trade-off of stiffness and ductility of metals has long plagued materials scientists. To address this issue, atomic structure designs of short-range ordering (SRO) to sub-nanometer and nanometer scales have received much interest in tailoring the atomic environment and electronic interaction between solute and solvent atoms. Taking an example of Al-Li alloy with high specific stiffness and reverse correlation of Young's modulus and melting point, in this work, we investigate the SRO-dependent stiffness and… Show more

“…This configuration resembles an AND gate with an inverter applied to one of its inputs. Thus the modulation of emission at 438 nm in response to Zn 2+ and Cu 2+ inputs, incorporating an inverter, effectively emulates a monomolecular circuit that exhibits an INHIBIT logic function (Figure 9) at the molecular scale [10,32] …”

“…Similarly, large intake of zinc‐containing supplements or medication can lead to various problems including metabolic and neurological disorder, kidney and liver damage [9] . Hence, devising a selective and sensitive tool to monitor these metal ions has become relevant in recent years [10,11] . Therefore, it is crucial to have chemosensor capable of detecting both the metal ions utilizing single method and provide distinct responses for each ion [12,13] .…”

“…As one of the major strengthening mechanisms in Al‐Li alloys, precipitation strengthening is of great interests to many researchers [8–12] . Among them, the nano T 1 precipitate with high length/diameter ratios is the most important and has been well‐studied in the third and fourth‐generation Al‐Li alloys.…”
