Structural, Optical, Magnetic and Photon Attenuation of Novel Potassium Lead Borate Glasses Doped with MnO

Abstract: Potassium lead borate glasses doped with MnO (40B 2 O 3 +40PbO+(20-x)K 2 O+xMnO: x= 0-5 mol%) have been prepared via standard melting quenching process. The impact of MnO on the structure, optical, magnetic and gamma-ray protection properties of pottisium lead borate glasses have been examined. The density was increased from 4.83±0.01 to 5.23±0.01 g/cm 3 as MnO content increased. The obtained direct optical gap (E g ) values were 2.84, 2.59, 2.41, 2.19, 1.95, and 1.84 eV for the Mn-x (x=0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) g… Show more

“…The increase in the number of non-bridging oxygen is due to the conversion of [BO 3 ] units to [BO 4 ], this conversion has already been reported in the density results. The same behavior of gap energy as a function of manganese has been observed in the MnO 2 –ZnO–B 2 O 3 glass system [ 89 ] and in various previously published studies [ 45 , 84 , 90 ].

“…Several investigations on borate manganese glasses [ 41 , 45 , 46 ] and other glasses containing manganese [ [47] , [48] , [49] , [50] , [51] ], have demonstrated the same tendency in the evolution of density and molar volume with the manganese oxides obtained in this work.…”
