Structural, optical and magnetic properties of Cr doped ZnO microrods prepared by spray pyrolysis method

Abstract: A series of Cr-doped ZnO micro-rod arrays were fabricated by a spray pyrolysis method. X-ray diffraction patterns of the samples showed that the undoped and Cr-doped ZnO microrods exhibit hexagonal crystal structure. Surface morphology analysis of the samples has revealed that pure ZnO sample has a hexagonal microrod morphology. From X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies, the Cr 2p3/2 binding energy is found to be 577.34 eV indicating that the electron binding energy of the Cr in ZnO is almost the same as th… Show more

“…There are various methods to fabricate one-dimensional transition metal-doped ZnO materials. These techniques include chemical vapor deposition [21], hydrothermal method [22], thermal evaporation [23] and spray pyrolysis technique [24]. Among these, the spray pyrolysis is especially suitable, since it has proved to be a simple and inexpensive method, particularly useful for large area applications.…”

“…We discuss the relationship between the optical and magnetic properties with a view to explaining the origin of observed room temperature ferromagnetism in our Ni-doped ZnO micro-rod samples. [24]. The initial stock solution was prepared from zinc chloride (ZnCl 2 ) at 0.1 M concentration in deionized water.…”

“…2. The spectra are almost equal to the typical XRD spectrum of undoped ZnO nanoparticles reported from other experiments [11][12][13][14][15]. The evolution of lattice parameters a and c as well as the unit cell volume, V, with doping concentrations by means of MAUD program [16] using Rietveld method are also tabulated in Table.1.…”

“…ZnO rods exhibit a transmittance of nearly 50% at the wavelength range of 550-900 nm. The low transmittance is ascribed to the nonplanar surface of the rods, causing the light to scatter from the surface [26]. Compared to ZnO rods, the transmittance values of Mg-doped ZnO samples are low.…”
