Structural modifications of binary lithium silicate glasses upon femtosecond laser pulse irradiation probed by micro-Raman spectroscopy

Abstract: The effects of single femtosecond laser pulse irradiation (130 fs pulse duration, 800 nm center wavelength) on the structure of binary lithium silicate glasses of varying chemical compositions were investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopy. Permanent modifications were generated at the surface of the glass samples with varying laser fluences in the ablative regime and evaluated for changes in the corresponding Raman band positions and bandwidths. For increasing laser fluences, the position of certain Raman band… Show more

“…7E and F). For hydrophobic Cu/SiO 2 h system a small shi (few cm À1 ) with respect to pure silica is an effect of relatively small interaction of copper on amorphous silica network, 54,68 while the existence of additional lines indicates a copper-oxide bond (see Table 3). Moreover, two bands located at 262, 626 cm À1 can be assigned to (Cu-O)-Si mode.…”

“…The binary lithium silicate glass (LS) and the multicomponent glass (LNMS) were selected for this study as they both exhibit characteristic changes in the local Si-O-Si bond angles and in the Si-O* bond strengths upon fs-laser induced material modification22. Those modifications can be directly probed via micro Raman spectroscopy and allow a qualification of the structural state of the material.…”

“…In all the recorded spectra, broad Raman bands of the glass components (600 cm -1 and 1150 cm -1 ) [6], as well as the vibrational-rotational Raman band of the atmospheric oxygen molecules (1556 cm -1 ) are observed.…”
