Structural Investigation on Electrospun Nanofibers from Postconsumer Polyester Textiles and PET Bottles

Yelin Ko,
Juan P. Hinestroza,
Tamer Uyar

Abstract: This study investigates the structural and physical properties of electrospun nanofibers (NF) produced from postconsumer poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) textile sources, including a no-dye polyester fabric, a 50/50 (by weight) mixture of red-and blue-dye polyester fabric, a polyester t-shirt, and from a postconsumer PET bottle. The postconsumer PET sources and their corresponding electrospun NF exhibited similar chemical structures and melting points. However, the electrospun PET NF showed distinct cold cry… Show more

“…For comparisons, we included the tensile test data of the PET t-shirt NFM from our previous paper. 18 The SP Tshirt NFMs used for these tests were produced using the same parameters as in our earlier work. 18 As presented in Figure S3a, the SP t-shirt NFM showed a lower Young's modulus.…”

Additionally, in the stress−strain curve shown in Figure S3b differential thermogravimetric (DTG) curves of the SP t-shirt NFM, PET t-shirt NFM, and PET bottle NFM.…”
