Background: College students, as a sexually active group, are particularly vulnerable to the risks of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) acquisition and transmission. Findings and limitations of previous studies on factors affecting HIV/AIDS-related awareness and sexual attitudes support conducting further research in this study. This study aims to describe and evaluate the extent to which college students with different sexual attitudes understand HIV/AIDS in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, and related factors for HIV/AIDS prevention. Methods: From November to December 2020, an anonymous questionnaire was conducted among 6,000 college students in Wenzhou, China to assess their sexual attitudes and knowledge towards HIV/AIDS. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, and logistic regression were used to analyze the factors affecting HIV/AIDS-related knowledge and sexual attitudes. We also performed a subgroup analysis on sexual attitudes. Results: A total of 5,627 valid questionnaires were included in our analysis, with an effective rate of 93.8%. The participants’ rate of HIV/AIDS-related awareness was 80.2%. Regarding sexual attitudes, 4,098 (72.8%) students held conservative views, while the rest (27.2%) held more open views. Among conservative students, seniors (AOR=1.12, 95%CI 1.01-1.23) and those with better health education (AOR=1.50, 95%CI 1.28-1.76) had higher HIV/AIDS knowledge. Conversely, rural students had lower HIV/AIDS knowledge (AOR=0.79, 95%CI 0.67-0.94). Additionally, in the open groups, students with better health education (AOR=1.21, 95%CI 1.11, 1.31) demonstrated higher levels of HIV/AIDS-related knowledge, whereas rural students (AOR=0.67, 95%CI 0.51, 0.89) showed lower HIV/AIDS knowledge. Conclusion: A significant portion of college students still possessed a permissive and hazardous sexual mindset and demonstrated a lack of HIV/AIDS-related knowledge. It’s crucial to hunt for ways to level students’ awareness of HIV/AIDS and provide them with more comprehensive sex education.

ObjectivesTo evaluate the diagnostic performance of urine HIV antibody rapid test kits in screening diverse populations and to analyse subjects’ willingness regarding reagent types, purchase channels, acceptable prices, and self-testing.DesignsDiagnostic accuracy studiesParticipantsA total of 2606 valid and eligible samples were collected in the study, including 202 samples from female sex workers (FSWs), 304 persons with injection drug use (IDU), 1000 pregnant women (PW), 100 subjects undergoing voluntary HIV counselling and testing (VCT) and 1000 students in higher education schools or colleges (STUs). Subjects should simultaneously meet the following inclusion criteria: (1) being at least 18 years old and in full civil capacity, (2) signing an informed consent form and (3) providing truthful identifying information to ensure that the subjects and their samples are unique.ResultsThe sensitivity, specificity and area under the curve (AUC) of the urine HIV-1 antibody rapid test kits were 92.16%, 99.92% and 0.960 (95% CI: 0.952 to 0.968, p<0.001), respectively, among 2606 samples collected during on-site screenings. The kits showed good diagnostic performance in persons with IDU (AUC, 1.000; 95% CI, 1.000 to 1.000, p<0.001), PW (AUC, 0.999; 95% CI, 0.999 to 1.000, p<0.001) and FSWs (AUC, 1.000; 95% CI, 1.000 to 1.000, p<0.001). The AUC of the urine reagent kits in subjects undergoing VCT was 0.941 (95% CI: 0.876 to 0.978, p<0.001). The ‘acceptable price’ had the greatest influence on STUs (Pi=1.000) and PW (Pi=1.000), the ‘purchase channel’ had the greatest influence on subjects undergoing VCT (Pi=1.000) and persons with IDU (Pi=1.000) and the ‘reagent types’ had the greatest influence on FSWs (Pi=1.000).ConclusionsThe rapid urine test kits showed good diagnostic validity in practical applications, despite a few cases involving misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis.

Objetivo: Determinar la influencia de los factores de vulnerabilidad al VIH/sida sobre los comportamientos sexuales de riesgo en los adolescentes. Método: Estudio transversal correlacional predictivo. Muestra aleatoria estratificada de 1000 adolescentes de colegios públicos de una localidad de Bogotá, Colombia. Se estimó un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales que examinó los efectos de los factores vulnerabilidad al VIH/sida sobre los comportamientos sexuales de riesgo (escala EVA-CSR), controlando las variables: consumo de alcohol, número de parejas sexuales, inicio de la vida sexual y edad. Resultados: Sobre los comportamientos sexuales de riesgo el modelo presentó: un ajuste adecuado; explica un 31% de la varianza; reportó efecto directo de educación sexual sanitaria, educación sexual escolar, expresión emocional el colegio, relaciones sexuales por amor a la pareja, maltrato de la pareja, consumo de alcohol, inicio de la vida sexual, número de parejas sexuales; y efecto mediador de la expresión emocional en el colegio, la educación sexual sanitaria y las relaciones sexuales por amor a la pareja. Conclusiones: Los comportamientos sexuales de riesgo del adolescente se explican con cinco factores de vulnerabilidad al VIH/sida y tres variables de control. Los estudios futuros deben centrarse en factores causales y mediadores que fortalezcan la evidencia de causalidad y en intervención sobre comportamientos sexuales de riesgo controlando las variables predictoras.
