Structural, Electrical and Optical Analysis of Barium Boro-Bismuthate Glass System: Opto-Electronic Devices

Abstract

A Glass composition 25BaO-30B2O3-45Bi2O3 was synthesized using melt quench technique. The structural, optical, electrical and thermal behaviour of prepared glass sample was investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, UV-Vis NIR, Impedance spectroscopy and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) respectively. XRD pattern of annealed glass sample, matched with diffraction profile of Bi45BO69 crystallite with size 49.83 nm. Optical parameters such as cut-off wavelength, bandgap, urbach energy and the refractive index were also calculated using UV-Vis absorption spectra for both samples. Dielectric parameters such as dielectric constant (ε’), dielectric loss (ε”), a.c. conductivity (σac) and loss tangent (tanδ) were also calculated for as prepared glass sample. The DTA curve shows crystallization ability and thermal stability of glassy sample. The synthesized composition was found to be promising material for applications like opto-electronic and energy storing devices, which enhance industry, innovation and infrastructure and ultimately enrich the sustainable cities and communities.
