Structural, electrical, and electromagnetic shielding properties of nanocarbon‐coated glass fiber‐reinforced polypropylene

Abstract: Glass fiber-reinforced composites (GFRC), widely applied in the automobile, aerospace, domestic appliance, sport equipment, and other fields, are indispensable in modern society. In this article, conductive nanocarbon-coated glass fibers (NCGFs) were hybridized with suitable polymers for the fabrication of new composite materials. NCGFs have good dispersion and interfacial interactions within polypropylene matrices. The electrical conductivity of a nanocarbon-coated glass fibers-reinforced composite (NCGFRC) w… Show more

“…[56][57][58][59][60] Further, the materials with excellent electrical conductivity generally have outstanding EMW shielding effectiveness (SE). [61][62][63][64] Figure 4A, B depicts the variation of EMW SE (SE T ) with changing MWCNT loadings for the MWCNT/PCL nanocomposites and MWCNT/iPP nanocomposites at X-band. The PCLNT-0 and iPPNT-0 samples without MWCNTs exhibit particularly very low EMW SE T because of the low electrical conductivity, indicating that neat PCL and iPP have nearly no shielding for EMW.…”

“…For the practical problems of poor antistatic properties and inadequate mechanical properties of PP, Gu et al 46 In contrast to the above production methods, Gao et al 48 produced nanocarbon-coated glass fiber (NCGF) by using polymer pyrolysis deposition coating technology. Then, the composite sheet was obtained by melting, mixing and hot pressing with PP in a twin screw rheometer, The prepared material had no obvious gap and good orientation dispersion.…”
