Structural, Dielectric and Ferroelectric Studies of Tungsten Substituted Barium Strontium Titanate

Abstract: In the present work, effects of tungsten substitution on the microstructure, dielectric constant, dielectric loss and polarization in barium strontium titanate ferroelectric ceramics have been investigated. Samples of compositions Ba 0.8 Sr 0.2 Ti 1-x W x O 3 (x = 0.0, 0.05) were prepared by solid state reaction method. The dielectric measurements were carried out from −60 • C to100 • C at 1 kHz, 10 kHz and 100 kHz. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals the formation of single-phase perovskite tetragonal structur… Show more

“…In order to preserve the electrical neutrality of the unit cell, compensation mechanisms are activated, which are involved in creating V Ti , V Ba , V O vacancies. Literature reports indicate that, for low concentrations of lanthanum, neutrality of the crystal lattice is achieved by generating oxygen vacancies, which confirms the pale blue color of the obtained samples [11,[24][25][26].…”

“…The decrease in the value of the dielectric constant upon further addition of Pb is due to porosity present in the samples. Apart from this, a substantial shift in the value of T c from 120°C for pure BaTiO 3 to 170°C for Ba 0.80 Pb 0.20 TiO 3 was also noted, which was more than that seen with any other dopant used [29,[33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41] (refer to Table 2).…”

“…9. The dielectric constant e' of materials have four different polarization contributions: space charge polarization, dipolar polarization, ionic polarization and electronic polarization [88]. At lower frequency (1 Hz-1 kHz) and at intermediate frequency (1-100 kHz) ranges space charge polarization and dipolar polarization are dominated, respectively.…”
