Structural characterizations, spectroscopic, electrochemical properties, and antibacterial activities of copper (II) and cobalt (II) complexes containing imidazole ring

Abstract: Two two-dimensional and three-dimensional supramolecular complexes [M (L) 2 ] (NO 3 ) 2 ·2CH 3 OH (M = Cu(1) and Co(2), L = 2-(4-imidazolyl)-4-methyl-1,2-quinazoline-N 3 -oxide), were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, as well as elemental analysis. The spectroscopic data of both complexes were compared with the ligand L. Both complexes were determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction and display similar coordination geometry and have a 2:1 ligand-to-metal ratio. All the central… Show more

“…2.743 and 2.633 eV. [18] TD-DFT simulated UV-Vis spectra of both complexes were represented in Figure 7. According to Table 5, calculated vertical electronic excitation energy (eV), oscillator strength (f), and tentative nature of the transition with the help of the TD-DFT level were listed.…”

“…Both complexes demonstrated the optimum inhibitory effect against two bacterial strains at 2.5 mg ml À1 concentration, confirming that the bactericidal efficacy was usually concentration-dependent. [52,53] A possible interpretation for the discovered phenomenon in metal complexes was the chelation theory. During chelation, the metal ions in the complexes shared partially positive charges with donor atoms of the ligands, thus increasing the delocalization of π electrons on the whole chelating ring, which in turn enhanced the lipophilicity of the metal.…”
