Structural Characterization of Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis Polysaccharide and Its Property in Delaying Cellular Senescence

Abstract: The sulfated polysaccharide was isolated from the purified G. lemaneiformis polysaccharide (PGP), and its property in delaying H2O2-induced 2BS cellular senescence was studied. The results showed that PGP was a linear polysaccharide containing alternating α-(1 → 3)- and β-(1 → 4)-galactopyranose units. Most of the sulfate groups are at C6 of the -(1 → 4)-α-D-Galp, and a small part of them are at C3 and C6. PGP pretreatment could decrease SA-β-gal-positive cells and prevent the formation of senescence-associate… Show more

“…Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis (Rhodophyta) is an economically important seaweed that is widely distributed along subtropical and temperate coasts, and the agar extracted from it is an indispensable raw material for modern industry. G. lemaneiformis contains a variety of bioactive ingredients such as polysaccharides, essential amino acids, vitamins, and dietary fiber (Liao et al, 2015;Wang et al, 2022), which have antitumor, antioxidant, and immune regulation functions and have extremely high nutritional value (Jiang et al, 2014;Kang et al, 2017;Fang et al, 2021). Additionally, G. lemaneiformis can effectively absorb carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus from the environment and promote oxygen enrichment in the ocean.…”
