Structural and thermal characterization of poly(2‐chloroaniline)/red mud nanocomposite materials

Abstract: ABSTRACT:We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of conducting poly(2-chloroaniline) (P2ClAn)/red mud (RM) nanocomposite materials. The polymerization of 2-chloroaniline in an aqueous medium in the presence of (NH 4 ) 2 S 2 O 8 and RM resulted in the formation of a nanocomposite (P2ClAn/RM). The extent of P2ClAn loading in the composites increased with increasing oxidant and monomer concentrations but decreased with RM. The properties of the nanocomposites were characterized with Fourier trans… Show more

“…P2ClAn, POT, and their composites exhibited decomposition in one step. This weight loss was possibly due to a large thermal degradation of the PAn chain 34. Endothermic peaks in the DTA curve of the samples supported decompositions belonging to the thermogravimetric (TG) results.…”

“…SEM micrographs of P2ClAn, POT, P2ClAn/Pmc, and POT/Pmc are given in Figure 4(a–d). P2ClAn exhibited a big globular structure unlike P2ClAn synthesized in the presence of HCl 34. However, POT had smaller particles than P2ClAn [Fig.…”

“…The use of reinforced nano-composites has shown improvement in mechanical properties, transport barrier, thermal resistivity, and flame-retardance, in comparison with pristine polymer materials. 1012 In both nano-composites and macro-fabricated composites, mechanical properties are enhanced by the dispersion of particles such as aluminium oxides, metal carbides, titanium oxides and boron and carbide into the matrices.…”
