Structural and Physicochemical Properties of a Polymerizable Surfactant Synthesized from N‐Methylol Acrylamide

Abstract: A new polymerizable nonionic surfactant with reactive vinyl groups has been synthesized from N‐methylol acrylamide using a two‐step procedure. The structure of the surfactant molecule was characterized by Fourier transform infrared, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectroscopy. The surface active properties alongside its self‐assembly properties were investigated by surface tension, electrical conductivity, and fluorescence spectroscopy measurements. As compared with other nonionic surfactants, this stu… Show more

“…The remained water-soluble vinyl monomers in the treated d -cellobiose and EHL have been removed before analysis. The signals in the NMR spectra of the samples were assigned according to previous articles. The 1 H NMR spectra of untreated and treated d -cellobiose are shown in Figure a, d, respectively. The peak at 4.97 ppm was corresponded to −OH (C 2′ ) in d -cellobiose.…”

“…C6 is represented by 67 and 63 ppm in the crystalline and amorphous regions. The signal peaks of C2, C3 and C5 mainly appear at 73 and 75 ppm [24,25]. The curve in Figure 5 shows that the main characteristic peak of HEMA is a reaction with wood at 133.36, 88.77, 83.78, and 74.8 ppm.…”

The curve in Figure 5 shows that the main characteristic peak of HEMA is a reaction with wood at 133.36, 88.77, 83.78, and NMR was performed to examine whether the modified wood showed a new chemical shift after interacting with HEMA/MBA and whether a chemical reaction occurred in the modified wood, in order to confirm the finding of the FTIR.…”

“…At present, the conventional acrylamide polymer under the condition of high temperature and high salt, easy hydrolysis and occur thermal degradation reaction, lead to the solution viscosity decreased with increasing temperature and salt concentration, thereby limiting its applications. However, n ‐methylol acrylamide (HAM), which is a water‐soluble bifunctional nonionic monomer with polymerizable vinyl and crosslinkable methylol groups, has first introduced as FLA monomer . As we can see, the HAM has a similar structure to acrylamide (AM), which has a widespread application in FLAs.…”
