a b s t r a c tZn (1−x) Fe (x) O (1+0.5x) (x = 0.5-5 mol%) nanoparticles were synthesized by a low temperature solution combustion route. The structural characterization of these nanoparticles by PXRD, SEM and TEM confirmed the phase purity of the samples and indicated a reduction in the particle size with increase in Fe content. A small increase in micro strain in the Fe doped nanocrystals is observed from W-H plots. EPR spectrum exhibits an intense resonance signal with effective g values at g ≈ 2.0 with a sextet hyperfine structure (hfs) besides a weak signal at g ≈ 4.13. The signal at g ≈ 2.0 with a sextet hyperfine structure might be due to manganese impurity where as the resonance signal at g ≈ 4.13 is due to iron. The optical band gap E g was found to decrease with increase of Fe content. Raman spectra exhibit two non-polar optical phonon (E 2 ) modes at low and high frequencies at 100 and 435 cm −1 in Fe doped samples. These modes broaden and disappear with increase of Fe dopant concentration. TL measurements of ␥-irradiated (1-5 kGy) samples show a main glow peak at 368• C at a warming rate of 6.7• Cs −1 . The thermal activation parameters were estimated from Glow peak shape method. The average activation energy was found to be in the range 0.34-2.81 eV.

Abstract:A simple thermal treatment method, utilizing only zinc nitrate, polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), and deionized water, was used to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles, and their characteristics were investigated by various techniques. The TGA measurement demonstrated that the bulk of the capping agent PVP can be removed at temperatures higher than 500 °C and is consistent with the absence of the majority of PVP absorption peaks in the FT-IR spectra. The formation of almost pure ZnO nanoparticles was established by the presence of single absorption peak in the FT-IR spectra due to being only Zn-O bonds at calcination temperatures of 500 °C and above. The TEM images revealed that the nanoparticles have a spherical shape and the particle size increased from 60.1-83.1 nm with an increase in calcination temperatures from 500-600 °C. The XRD diffraction patterns indicated that the particles are of a wurzite lattice structure. The optical properties were determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and it was found that the band gap of ZnO nanoparticles decreased from 3.249-3.239 eV with an increase in calcination temperature from 500-600 °C.

RESUMO As membranas assimétricas, denominadas respectivamente Mb1 e Mb2, foram obtidas por meio do método de inversão de fases, empregando-se o copolímero Poli (acrilonitrila-co-acetato de vinila) - P (AN- co -AV) com composição em massa inicial de 6,5% e 8,5% de Polivinilpirrolidona (PVP). As membranas foram caracterizadas por meio das técnicas de Espectroscopia no Infravermelho com Transformada de Fourier (IV-TF) e de Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV). Por meio da técnica de IV-TF foi possível identificar as bandas que permitiram apontar os principais grupos funcionais presentes: i) no polímero base, ii) no copolímero e iii) no aditivo polimérico PVP usados na fabricação das membranas. Tais bandas seriam: em 2246 cm-1, banda associada à deformação axial do grupo C≡N da unidade de acrilonitrila; em 1735 cm-1, banda associada ao estiramento do grupo carbonila (C=O), presente no comonômero éster ou ácidos utilizados na polimerização da Poliacrilonitrila (PAN), e em 1242 cm-1 (νC-O), banda associada aos grupos acetatos presentes no copolímero P(AN-co-AV). As bandas fundamentais da PVP foram identificadas em 1664 cm-1 e 1293 cm-1 atribuída ao estiramento do grupo carbonila (C=O) ligado à amida e ao estiramento da ligação (-C-N) respectivamente. Os resultados obtidos por meio da MEV apontaram para alterações estruturais na morfologia da membrana resultantes do aumento na concentração de PVP.
