Structural and nonstructural proteins of a rabbit parvovirus

Abstract: The structural and nonstructural polypeptides of a rabbit parvovirus (RPV) (F-7-9 strain) were analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The virion contained three polypeptide components, A (molecular weight, 96,000), B (85,000), and C (75,000). A part of the polypeptide C was cleaved into the smaller-molecular-weight polypeptide C' by proteolysis during purification steps. The major polypeptide C together with C' constituted about 87% of the total viral proteins, and the minor pol… Show more

“…Virus-specific antiserum was used in the identification of two forms of a nonstructural protein (84 and 94 kDa) from H-1 parvovirus-infected cells (18). Viral noncapsid polypeptides have also been described in Kilham rat virus-infected (15), rabbit parvovirus-infected (13), and Aleutian disease virus-infected (2) cells.…”

“…B19 capsid proteins of 58 and 84 kDa have been detected by immunoblotting in the sera of infected patients (N. Young and K. Ozawa, in J. R. Pattison, ed., Parvoviruses and Human 0 20 40 Disease in press) and fetal tissue of a spontaneous abortus (4). These proteins are similar in number, size, and relative proportions to capsid proteins of other animal parvoviruses (7,8,12,17,18). In particular, the major capsid species (VP2) weighed 58 kDa, which is similar to those of the dominant capsid proteins of several adeno-associated viruses, feline panleucopenia virus, LullI virus, minute virus of mice, and Kilham rat virus.…”

“…The virus had the morphological, physical, and chemical properties of a parvovirus. The various proteins of the virus have been characterized (Matsunaga and Matsuno, 1983). Subsequently, parvovirus was recovered from kidney cells of neonatal rabbits in the United States (Metcalf et al, 1989).…”
