Structural and Ion Transport Studies in (100-x) PVdF + xNH&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;4&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt;SCN Gel Electrolyte

The hybrid polymer nanocomposites based on poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexaflouro propylene) (PVdF-HFP) as a host matrix, propylene carbonate as the plasticizer, and surface modified and unmodified TiO 2 nanoparticles as fillers for dye-sensitized solar cell applications have been prepared using a solvent casting technique. The surface of TiO 2 was modified using aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS), and its organic functional groups on TiO 2 were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The PVdF-HFP membranes were characterized by FTIR, wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), atomic force microscopic (AFM), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopic techniques. It was found a new interaction of APS molecules on TiO 2 surface with matrix as well as electrolyte salt. The experimental observations indicated a noticeable improvement in ionic conductivity of modified TiO 2 of about 6.7×10 −4 S/cm when compared with unmodified counterpart (TiO 2 ) as the filler within PVDF-HFP matrix. The solid state dye-sensitized solar cell has been fabricated by using silanemodified TiO 2 /PVdF-HFP nanocomposite electrolyte and eosin-Y as sensitizer, and its photoconversion efficiency is measured about 1.47 %.

Polymer blend electrolyte membrane was prepared for dye sensitized solar cells based on poly ethylene oxide and polyvinylidene fluoride-co-hexaflouropropylene (PVDF-HFP) filled with surface modified Titanium dioxide (M-TiO 2 ) nanofillers. The surface of TiO 2 was modified using Aminopropyltrimethoxysilane. The electrochemical studies indicated that the addition of surface modified nanoparticles increase the ionic conductivity up to 7.21x 10 -4 S/cm for 7 wt%, whereas the ionic conductivity about 8.14×10 -5 S/cm with the addition of unmodified counterpart as the filler into the PEO/PVDF-HFP blend system. In addition to this ionic mobility, charge carrier concentration, ion diffusion coefficient also found to increase with the addition of surface modified TiO 2 nanoparticles. Wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) results showed the change in the crystalline phase of PEO/PVDF-HFP blend electrolyte with the addition of M-TiO 2 . The influence of the TiO 2 nanoparticles surface functionality on the degree of crystallinity of the polymer matrix was analyzed using differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Thermo mechanical behavior of the composite membranes was studied by dynamical mechanical Analysis (DMA). The thermo gravimetric investigations (TGA) of membranes indicated the thermal degradation temperatures of hybrid nanocomposites were enhanced upon the addition of nanosized inorganic fillers. The morphological characterizations were carried out by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The solid state dye sensitized solar cell has been fabricated by using silane modified TiO 2 /PEO/PVDF-HFP polymer nanocomposites electrolyte, multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/Nafion ® as counter electrode. The photovoltaic characteristics of constructed cells showed an enhancement of open circuit voltage (V oc ) from 0.62 to 0.71 V andthe best efficiency achieved about 2.84%. The enhancement of DSSC was further confirmed by electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) spectra studies for lowest Warburg resistance (R diff ).

This work describes the performance of a gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) based redox capacitor using the cyclic voltammetry technique.GPE was prepared with 22.5 wt% polyacrylonitrile (PAN), (1:1weight ratio) ethylene carbonate (EC) and propylene carbonate (PC) having a salt concentration of 1.0 M sodium iodide (NaI). Dependence of ionic conductivity of GPE on temperature was investigated using ac impedance spectroscopy. Two polypyrrole (PPy) electrodes were used as the electrodes of the redox capacitor. The performance of the device was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry. The redox-capacitors were cycled at different scan rates to determine the scan rate at which the maximum capacitance is obtained. After tracking that scan rate, continuous cycling was carried out at that scan rate to investigate the deterioration of capacitance upon cycling. The room temperature conductivity (σ) of the GPE was 4.29 × 10 -3 S cm -1 . The conductivity variation with temperature followed the Arrhenius behavior. From the scan rates selected for the study, the maximum capacity could be obtained at the scan rate of 30 mV s -1 . The average specific capacity of the redox capacitor was 26.70 Fg -1 .
