Structural and advanced imaging in predicting MGMT promoter methylation of primary glioblastoma: a region of interest based analysis

Abstract: BackgroundThe methylation status of oxygen 6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter has been associated with treatment response in glioblastoma(GBM). Using pre-operative MRI techniques to predict MGMT promoter methylation status remains inconclusive. In this study, we investigated the value of features from structural and advanced imagings in predicting the methylation of MGMT promoter in primary glioblastoma patients.MethodsNinety-two pathologically confirmed primary glioblastoma patients underwe… Show more

“…The study data of the current project were derived from a diagnostic trial that has been registered to ClinicalTrials.gov with the trial protocol published and the study protocol was approved. The study population is the same as the one described in a previous work and written informed consent was obtained from all individuals . A total of 117 histologically confirmed (WHO 2007) glioma patients were retrospectively enrolled from July 2014 to January 2016, involving 25 WHO grade II, 29 WHO grade III, and 63 WHO grade IV.…”

“…40,42 MR may also not predict molecular characteristics of primary brain tumours, such as MGMT methylation and IDH mutation status. Han et al 43 correlated the MGMT promoter methylation with tumour location and necrosis by using advanced MRI. However, Moon et al 44 did not find significant association between MGMT methylation status and tumour location.…”
