Strong Circularly Polarized Phosphorescence of Achiral Pt(II) Metallomesogen Induced by Using a Chiral Co‐Assembly Strategy

Abstract: The high planarity and heavy‐atom effect of Pt(II) metallomesogens promote their stacking in the aggregated state and highly efficient phosphorescence. This makes them promising candidate materials for circularly polarized phosphorescence (CPP) triggered by using a chiral co‐assembly strategy. In this paper, a nematic phase, achiral robot‐like Pt(II) metallomesogen (TFPt) is synthesized, which combines two anchored chiral binaphthyl inducers (R/S1 or R/S2) to construct cholesteric liquid crystal (N*‐LC) co‐ass… Show more

“…The binaphthyl derivative R / S -1 was synthesized by substituting mesogenic groups at the 2,2′-positions on the binaphthyl rings to enhance compatibility with the LC system (detailed in the Supporting Information). The photophysical properties of R -1 and IrPA were evaluated by UV–vis absorption and emission spectra in THF solution at fixed concentrations of 10 –5 mol/L. The absorption peak of chiral dopants R -1 was located at 297 nm, which can be assigned to the π–π* electronic transitions from the binaphthyl moiety (Figure S1).…”
