“…Despite the economic and ecological importance of Russian sturgeon as one of the major commercial sturgeon species in the southern Caspian Sea, no adequate information about age, growth, mortality, especially age at first capture, length and age at maturity and stock assessment of the fish in the Caspian Sea has been published. Such information is especially important because of the ecological changes that affected all components of the ecosystem, especially on stocks of pelagic and demersal feeder fishes in the Caspian Sea (Daskalov & Mamedov, ; Fazli, Daryanabard, Abdolmaleki, & Bandani, ; Fazli, Ghaninejad, Janbaz, & Daryanabard, ; Fazli, Zhang, Hay, & Lee, ; Fazli et al., , ; Pourang, Eslami, Nasrollahzadeh Saravi, & Fazli, ). The objectives of this investigation were to fill the basic population biology parameters such as age, growth, age at first capture and maturity and to estimate the biomass of Russian sturgeon in the southern Caspian Sea based on the estimated parameters during the years 1990–2009.…”
