String dynamics in NS5-F1-P geometries

Abstract: String theory dynamics on certain fivebrane supertube backgrounds is described by an exactly solvable null-gauged WZW model. We use this description to compute the spectrum of closed string excitations on the three-charge nonsupersymmetric solution found by Jejjala, Madden, Ross and Titchener, as well as its supersymmetric limit. The low-lying spectrum matches that of supergravity modes in the effective geometry and exhibits an underlying group-theoretic structure. Winding sectors describe strings carrying the… Show more

“…In these duality frames, only NS-NS fields are turned on and an exact worldsheet CFT description of the background is possible. In [101][102][103], the relevant worldsheet CFT was constructed, and the spectrum of the fundamental string and possible D-branes were analyzed. This duality frame may be useful in studying the bulk realization of the fractional and higher modes that are crucial in understanding the microstates of the D1-D5-P (or the F1-NS5-P) black hole.…”

“…Allowing O to be any CFT operator requires going beyond the supergravity approximation. The stringy description of black hole microstates beyond supergravity is an interesting open avenue, with recent progress [20,21], however developing a precise holographic dictionary in this more general context appears to be a formidable task. Secondly, for a typical microstates |H in a given ensemble, the deviation of the expectation values H|O i |H from the ensemble average values are expected to be exponentially suppressed in the large N limit (see e.g.…”

“…In the classical GR analysis of[14] excitations can sit at the supertube locus where they cost zero energy, but as shown in[67] there is a gap in the spectrum.…”

“…More precisely, as discussed in[67] the global structure of the gauge group is non-compact in the timelike direction and thus R L+R × U (1) L−R . The distinction, while important, will not affect our considerations here.…”
