Strigol induces germination of the facultative parasitic plant Phtheirospermum japonicum in the absence of nitrate ions

Abstract: Root parasitic plants in the family Orobanchaceae, such as Striga and Orobanche spp., infest major crops worldwide, leading to a multibillion-dollar loss annually.
