“…Viability analysis under heat stress was designed as follows: 5 flies were placed in a vial with standard (Rauschenbach et al, 1987) medium (18e29 vials in each group under study). Before and after the experiments the flies were kept at 25 C. To determine viability under heat stress the vials with flies were transferred from 25 C to 38 C for 3.5 h. After which they were returned to 25 C, and 24 h after live flies were counted and survival rates were calculated as a percent of survivors in each vial.…”

“…20E stimulate vitellogenin (Vg) biosynthesis in the fat body and then Vg is subsequently taken up from hemolymph by ovaries. It is also shown that in insects, including Drosophila, JH is a part of neuroendocrine stress response (Rauschenbach et al, 1987(Rauschenbach et al, , 1995Cymborowski, 1991) and plays a key role in insect adaptation to stressors (review: Gruntenko and Rauschenbach, 2008). Therefore, the strict regulation of JH titer in insect body is crucial throughout their life.…”

“…In insects, the components of such stress reactions include juvenile hormone (JH) and 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E), which play a gonadotropic role in adults, and the biogenic amines dopamine (DA), serotonin and octopamine (OA), which function as neurotransmitters, neuromodulators and neurohormones (Orchard et al, 1981;Davenport and Evans, 1984;Rauschenbach et al, 1987;Woodring et al, 1988;Cymborowski, 1991;Hirashima and Eto, 1993;Rauschenbach et al, 1993;Rauschenbach et al, 1995a; RESEARCH ARTICLE Rauschenbach et al, 2004;Neckameyer and Weinstein, 2005;Andersen et al, 2006;Lalouette et al, 2007;Roesijadi et al, 2007;Gruntenko and Rauschenbach, 2008).…”
