“…Endometriosis can be commonly misdiagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)(19) due to overlap in common symptoms and perhaps mechanisms of disease progression involving aberrant activation of inflammatory cascades. The causes of endometriosis onset are unknown; however, a relationship between stress, hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) dysregulation, and endometriosis severity has been documented by others and our own work in the rat model of endometriosis (2023).
