“…To our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate blunted resting-state HF-HRV among people with OUD compared with patients who take opioids as prescribed by their physicians. However, researchers have shown similar patterns of diminished resting HRV in other SUD populations, including with patients with alcohol, 23 cocaine, 24 nicotine 27,28 and methamphetamine use disorders. 25,26 Consistent results observed across a range of drugs with distinct mechanisms of action further reinforce the notion that blunted HF-HRV may be a general transdiagnostic addiction endophenotype rather than a specific pharmacological effect.…”

“…Indeed, a meta-analysis found that individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD) had significantly lower resting-state HRV than individuals without AUD. 23 Studies have also demonstrated that individuals who use cocaine, 24 those with methamphetamine use disorder, 25,26 those with nicotine addiction 27,28 and those who use heroin 29 exhibit blunted resting-state HRV compared with healthy controls.…”

“…The PSS-10 measures individual stress levels. It has been used as an outcome measure to identify reductions in stress scores from a 10-week stress reduction program [65] and clinical studies [66]. In addition to the assessments, participant intake progress notes will be used during the first session by the facilitator to understand the child's most pressing needs and build rapport with the child (S1 Table ).…”
