“…Huet (2015) ART THERAPY-BASED GROUPS FOR WORK-RELATED STRESS -Val Huet and Sue Holttum 2016 2 identified and reviewed eleven art therapy publications on work-stress. Publications addressed general health care (Klein, 1973;Julliard, Intilli, Ryan, Vollmann and Seshadri, 2002;Visnola, Sprudza, Bake and Pike, 2010), mental health care (Huet, 2011;Huet 2012;Riley, 1997) and oncology and palliative care (Belfiore, 1994;Murrant, Rykov, Amonite & Loynd, 2000;Nainis, 2005;Salzano, Lindemann & Tronsky;Van Westrhenen & Fritz, 2012). Studies describe diverse approaches providing individual art-making within a group (Klein, 1973;Belfiore, 1994), group and individual art exercises (Huet, 2011;Huet 2012;Nainis, 2005;Riley, 1997;Visnola et al, 2010), individual art-making sessions (Julliard et al, 2002) as well as dyadic and group art-making tasks (Salzano et al 2013).…”

“…When used, pretest or post-test measures were often limited to short participant surveys (Murrant et al, 2000;Nainis, 2005) or not specified (Huet, 2012). Limitations of interventions using empirical measures included: a research protocol where stress was not operationalised (Julliard et al, 2002); the absence of any intervention in the control group (Visnola et al, 2010), which affected the validity of comparisons with the experimental group; and a lack of randomisation of participant allocation (Salzano et al, 2013) that may have affected results positively. However, since the research method most commonly used within art therapy was a case study-based approach using therapist-reported outcomes (Gilroy, 2006), the studies by Visnola et al (2010) and Salzano et al (2013), together with Huet's (2011Huet's ( , 2012 use of audio recordings and thematic analysis, denoted a growing interest in using more rigorous qualitative and quantitative research methodology within art therapy.…”

“…An exploratory research project on using images to assess stress levels amongst family practice residents was undertaken by Julliard, Intilli, Ryan, Vollmann, and Seshadri (2002). The authors reviewed the literature on stress during residency (medical training) and concluded that it indicated particularly high levels of stress during this period, although individual risk factors had been neglected.…”
