In all animal models of shock induced stress ulcerations studied so far, the mucosal lesion spare the antrum [2,5,7,10] and it has been demonstrated, that this is paralleled by a more rapid deterioration of the energy state of cells in the corpus than in the antral area, as evidenced by the energy charge of the adenylate pool [5]. Since overall decrease of gastric mucosal blood flow is a constant feature of shock and gastric mucosal ischemia has been implicated as one of the major factors in the development of stress lesions [9], one could speculate whether or not these differences in energy metabolism are a consequence of different degrees of ischemia.…”
