“…Mindfulness-based programs for transplant patients have been tested in a few clinical studies including the following: (i) postsolid organ transplant recipients with traditional 8-week MBSR; 16,17,[32][33][34][35] (ii) patients undergoing stem cell transplant with 6-8 individual sessions 34 or multiple individual sessions plus daily meditation practice with CD; 32 (iii) patients with several years poststem cell transplant with an 8-week intervention similar to MBSR; 17 and (iv) caregivers of lung transplant recipients with an MBSR DVD. 18 Our intervention differed from these in that we integrated concepts from MBSR, ACT, and SMART with an abbreviated intervention that was arguably more scalable than the other in-person programs tested in transplant populations. By combining different concepts, we expected to provide an eclectic approach that would foster engagement of the intervention to a greater variety of individuals and also cover a range of concepts that have been shown to be associated with resilience.…”

“…Mindfulness‐based stress reduction (MBSR), developed by Jon Kabat‐Zin, has previously been studied in solid organ transplant patients, stem cell transplant patients, and caregivers, and it was found to improve stress levels and quality of life with sustained benefit in those who participated. MBSR is an 8‐week program (usually 2.5 to 3 h/wk plus and all day weekend class) that involves intensive meditation practice.…”

“…Furthermore, all of the participants demonstrated positive changes in psychological health, and these effects persisted at the 18-month follow-up assessment. These positive changes in psychological health may have resulted from the mindfulness exercise, as previous research has also found that mindfulness interventions reduce STAI scores and increase FFMQ scores ( 23 , 24 ). In view of these findings, the mindfulness exercises designed to promote appropriate eating behavior in CBT-MIO were effective in improving participants' psychological health, as reflected by changes in their DEBQ, STAI, and FFMQ scores.…”

“…Implementing medical program by nurses including education, counsel, control and follow-up, Vest et al disclosed that patients' life quality has been both physically and mentally improved (29). In two separate studies, Haines and Cynthia showed the effectiveness of using Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) including 8-10 week groups sessions, body-relaxing training, yoga gestures, and meditation during daily activities in reducing depression, anxiety, and stress (30,31). Salesi stressed that less intense regular physical activities positively affected patients' depression, anxiety and stress (32).…”
