Stress Analysis of a Three-Layer Metal Composite System of Bearing Assemblies During Grinding

Abstract: A mathematical model of the stress state of a three-layer metal composite system caused by cutting forces during grinding the working layer of the system is elaborated. The implementation of the model by using the finite-element method made it possible to assess the effect of structure of the system, the deformation properties of layer materials, and grinding conditions on the distribution and level of normal and tangential stresses in layers, which determine the load-carrying capacity of the system. The resul… Show more

“…The material grades are plotted on the x -axis, and the grinding processes on the y -axis. It is noted from Figure 1 that many researchers studied the effect of process parameters of the grinding process on AISI 52100, 100Cr6, Inconel, AISI 4340, AISI 8620, AISI 1045 [14], titanium alloys [15,16], and three-layer metal-composite system [17]. In the past researchers developed a model for cutting force in plunge cylindrical grinding [18], whilstin internal grinding [19], an innovate modeling approach to predict temperature distribution was developed [20].…”

“…The finite element method (FEM) is possible to predict the behavior of objects quickly and accurately in specific environments. The analysis of the known methods of solution of the problem are possible only in the simplest cases, but the solution is obtained by using FEM in more complicated cases [ 24 ]. It offers advantages in terms of cost and time it takes to build and study a real environment.…”

“…Due to the tools’ features, grinding and polishing with flexible-base abrasive tools have become widespread processes that can compete with grinding with abrasive wheel disks [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 ]. In some cases, these processes can be alternatives to the use of an abrasive water jet [ 27 , 28 , 29 ].…”
