Streptomyces griseiviridis sp. nov., A Novel “Modern Actinobacteria” isolated from Malaysia Mangrove Soil

Abstract: A novel strain, Streptomyces griseiviridis MUM 136JT was recovered from a mangrove forest soil in Malaysia. The Gram-positive bacterium forms strong yellow aerial mycelium and moderate yellow substrate mycelium on ISP 2 agar. A polyphasic approachwas used to determine the taxonomy status of strain MUM 136JT. The strain showed a spectrum of phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic properties consistent with those of the members of the genus Streptomyces. The cell wall peptidoglycan was determined to contain LL-diaminopi… Show more

“…The Streptomyces, members of the Gram-positive, aerobic, filamentous, and saprophytic bacterial genus belonging to the Actinomycetaceae family, constitute a fascinating phenomenon within the soil ecosystem [271][272][273][274][275][276][277][278][279] . Their ubiquity and pivotal role in the decomposition of organic matter make them key players in environmental dynamics.…”

“…Recent research has been looking into alternative treatment methods to manage the populations of V. parahaemolyticus and reduce the spread of AMR in our surrounding environments [71][72][73][74] . A compelling candidate is Streptomyces sp., a group of Gram-positive, filamentous bacteria belonging to the phylum Actinobacteria [75] . They are abundant in nature and have been frequently isolated from various sources such as soils, mangroves, and marine environments [76][77][78][79][80][81] .…”

“…MUM 178J, the isolate was subjected to complete whole genome sequencing. This aims to identify the biosynthetic gene clusters (BGC) responsible for the production of the bioactive compound(s) associated with its anti-Vibrio activity through genome mining and to gain insight into the genomic characteristics of MUM 178J [62][63][64][65][66] .…”
