Strengthening of reinforced concrete short columns using ferrocement under axial loading

Abstract: Reinforced concrete columns play an important role in distributing loads from slabs and beams to foundations. As a result of time, fatigue, or other factors, the reinforced columns are exposed to deterioration, and it is required to strengthen or repair these columns. Ferrocement jacketing can be considered as an easy and cheap method which has a significant effect on strengthening members. The main objective of this research is to study the effect of strengthening short columns using ferrocement jackets. Four… Show more

“…They studied the impact of the thickness of the ferro-cement layer, the number of layers of the steel mesh and the compressive strength of the ferro-cement mortar on the maximum load-carrying capacity of the tiles, deflection-load relationships and crack patterns. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of ferrocement repair and reinforcement in enhancing the performance of these slabs (Mabrouk et al, 2022;Fahmy et al, 2014;Shaaban et al, 2018;Sayhood et al, 2018). Mahmoud (2013) conducted laboratory experiments on a series of flat slabs strengthened with ferro-cement strips.…”

“…Numerous methods for reinforcing various RC structural components with ferrocement have been proposed. These include the use of ferrocement wrapping to confine RC columns [10][11][12][13], strengthening RC slabs in tensioned zones [14,15], reinforcing rigid RC column and beam joints [16,17], and the improvement in the compressive strength behavior of RC walls reinforced with [18]. High-strength cement matrices [19,20] and ferrocement with combined continuous and discontinuous micro-reinforcement, subjected to flexure, have been investigated [21,22].…”
