Strengthening MDE and Formal Design Models by References to Domain Ontologies. A Model Annotation Based Approach

Abstract: Critical systems are running in heterogeneous domains. This heterogeneity is rarely considered explicitly when describing and validating processes. Handling explicitly such domain knowledge increases design models robustness due to the expression and validation of new properties mined from the domain models. This paper proposes a stepwise approach to enrich design models describing complex information systems with domain knowledge. We use ontologies to model such domain knowledge. Design models are annotated b… Show more

“…Finally, at step 4, the annotated model is analysed to determine whether the constraints associated to the knowledge domain, carried out by the annotations, can be expressed in the new enriched design model. More details about the developed approach can be found in [9]. Annotation by inherice.…”

“…In this work, the domain models are developed using ontologies that can be used further during the system development applying the annotation mechanism. Hacid et al [21,22] have used the similar approach to develop a domain model based on ontologies for developing a system model using stepwise development. In [31], authors proposed a generic approach for integrating domain descriptions formalised by ontologies into an Event-B development process.…”
