Strength Tests of Alloys for Fixed Structures in Dental Prosthetics

Abstract: The production of fixed prosthetic restorations requires strength identification in terms of cognition and the targeted clinical applications. The aim of the study is to evaluate the static strength in axial tensile and compression tests of titanium and cobalt alloys for the supporting foundations of crowns and bridges produced using Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technologies: Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) and milling. The test materials are samples of Ti6Al4V and CoCrMo alloys obtain… Show more

“…Titanium demonstrates the highest tensile strength, indicating its superior mechanical robustness compared to zirconia and ceramic. This aligns with a study by Bojko et al, which evaluated the static strength in axial tensile tests of titanium alloys, highlighting their high ultimate tensile strength [ 10 ]. Additionally, zirconia stands out with the highest modulus of elasticity, suggesting its potential for enhanced resistance to deformation.…”

“…The material’s constants (elastic modulus and Poisson ratio) were assigned to each volumetric element with isotropic and homogeneous consistency, based on data in the literature. The properties have been summarized in Table 1 [ 15 , 21 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 ]. Five different superstructures have been simulated, as showed in Figure 3 .…”

“…Fixed prosthetic restoration should meet the following: health-related requirements in terms of biocompatible protection of the tissues of the oral cavity and proper functioning of the patient’s organs; mechanical requirements for strength (protection of tissue strain, temporary and fatigue parameters of the structure) and aesthetic requirements related to the location of the gingival margin, as well as shape, thickness and color of the veneer [ 1 , 2 ].…”
