Strength Characteristics Of Polyurethane (PU) With Modified Sand

Abstract: Soil stabilisation is defined as a technique to improve the engineering characteristics in order to improve the parameters such as shear strength, compressibility, density, hydraulic conductivity. There are many techniques that can be used for different purposes by enhancing some aspects of soil behaviour and improve the strength and properties of soil. One of the cheapest techniques is by using Polyurethane grout, which is workable for construction and enhances the performance of soil compressive strength. Po… Show more

“…The compressibility index will reduce when the polyurethane foam/resin is mixed with the sand. As stated in research done by Sidek et al [15], the coefficient of volume compressibility (mv) value of remediated soil is reduced when the addition of PU at 40%. Mohamed Jais et al [13] proves that the remediated soil with PU injection has experienced lower compressibility characteristics since the voids were filled with PU foam/resin with reduction of initial void ratio by almost 15%.…”

“…In addition, with the use of PU the bearing capacity of the soil is improved due to the expansion of voids between the soil particles [3]. Furthermore, the lightweight characteristics of PU allow a reduction of settlement rate and expansion characteristics of PU able to lift up the ground soil.…”

“…A green, sustainable and cost-effective technology is hereby tabled to address the issues of insufficient bearing capacities and differential settlement for roads in soft grounds and weak base area. Soil stabilization can be defined as an approach or technique in improving the existing ground soil through modification properties of engineering characteristics behaviour such as bearing capacity, stiffness, strength, density, compressibility as well as hydraulic conductivity [3]. This is to address long term consolidation and settlement, stability and bearing capacities for the foundation.…”
