Strength and Durability Behaviour of Nano Silica on High Performance Concrete

Abstract: Nano silica is a fine convergent material of 10-9m size.  Due to its fineness, stiffness gets increased and cracks get reduced. As nano silica is fine, the mechanical strength will be increased and the durability will also be increased. Nano silica will reduce the pores compared to nominal concrete specimens. In this to study strength and durability behaviour of M70 high performance concrete with Nano Silica as admixture partially replacing cement by 0% 5% 10% 15% 20%. The experimental investigation of sorptiv… Show more

“…However, the amount of nano-silica also considerably influences the FS. The complex behavior of NS is due to a balance between the packed microstructure and the altered chemical activator [ 82 ]. At 90 days, the sample with 2% PPFs and 10% NS has a 36.52% higher flexural strength than other GPC samples.…”

“…Nevertheless, the concentration of nano-silica present also significantly affects the flexural strength. The intricate behavior of nano-silica arises from a delicate equilibrium between the densely packed microstructure and the modified chemical activator [ 84 ]. The authors [ 16 ] noted that the fracture toughness profile of the plain sample exhibited a similar response to the specimens with PPFs and NS until the initial cracking occurred (see Fig.…”

“…Toughness was evaluated using the area under the load-deflection diagram. Figure (13) shows the relationship between the nanoparticle concentration and toughness for the tested beams. The results indicate that the overall flexural toughness values of the beams were improved as the percentage of nanomaterials increased.…”

“…The use of nanomaterial can not only modify mechanical properties but also the products of chemical reactions between nanomaterials and cement are not harmful to the environment [9]. Most published studies on the use of nanomaterial in cement and concrete have used nanooxides, particularly nanosilica and nanotitanium [10][11][12][13][14]. Nanosilica has been found to improve the strength, workability and durability of concrete.…”
