Streaked x-ray spectrometer having a discrete selection of Bragg geometries for Omega

Abstract: The streaked x-ray spectrometer (SXS) is used with streak cameras [D. H. Kalantar, P. M. Bell, R. L. Costa, B. A. Hammel, O. L. Landen, T. J. Orzechowski, J. D. Hares, and A. K. L. Dymoke-Bradshaw, in 22nd International Congress on High-Speed Photography and Photonics, edited by D. L. Paisley and A. M. Frank (SPIE, Bellingham, WA, 1997), Vol. 2869, p. 680] positioned with a ten-inch manipulator on OMEGA [T. R. Boehly et al., Opt. Commun. 133, 495 (1997)] and OMEGA EP [L. J. Waxer et al., Presented at CLEO∕QELS… Show more

“…28 In addition, a time-integrated x-ray microscope imager 33 observed the emission in the $3-to $7-keV photon-energy range. The XRFC employed a 4 Â 4 array of 10-lm-diam pinholes to produce 16 enlarged images of the target on a microchannelplate detector coupled to a charge-coupled-device camera.…”

“…At the time of shock convergence, a short burst of x rays emitted from the target is detected with an x-ray framing camera (XRFC) 27 and a streaked x-ray spectrometer (SXS). 28 The hot electrons are characterized from the measured hard x-ray bremsstrahlung emission. Laser-backscatter diagnostics provide measurements of the absorbed laser power and the spectrally and temporally resolved optical emission generated by laser-plasma instabilities.…”

“…The seed shock pressure is inferred from hydrodynamic simulations constrained by the measured temporal occurrence of the x-ray flash. The x-ray emission from the center of the target was measured temporally, spatially, and spectrally resolved using an x-ray framing camera (XRFC) [21] and a streaked x-ray spectrometer (SXS) [22]. The XRFC spatially and temporally resolved the x-ray emission, using a 4 × 4 pinhole array to produce 16 enlarged images of the target on a microchannel-plate detector, which was covered with four strips of gold film.…”

“…Bragg reflection crystal spectrometers recorded time-integrated and time-resolved x-ray spectra in the energy range of 7800–8600 eV. One spectrometer 58 was coupled to an x-ray streak camera to achieve 80-ps time-resolution; the other was coupled to x-ray–sensitive image plate.…”

“…The overall resolving power of the x-ray spectrometers is calibrated to be E/ ≈ 1100. The resolving power of the x-ray spectrometers is primarily limited by source size broadening and crystal rocking curve effects 58 .…”
