Stray-light restoration of full-disk CaII K solar observations: a case study

Abstract: Aims. We investigate whether restoration techniques, such as those developed for application to current observations, can be used to remove stray-light degradation effects on archive CaII K full-disk observations. We analyze to what extent these techniques can recover homogeneous time series of data. Methods. We develop a restoration algorithm based on a method presented by Walton & Preminger (1999, ApJ, 514, 959). We apply this algorithm to data for both present-day and archive CaII K full-disk observations, … Show more

“…Moreover, on average, more poorly resolved images from the poor quality set lead to the CLV being larger than the median CLV measured for good quality images, although differences are within the deviation of values measured on good images. These findings are in agreement with results obtained for different Ca II K data sets by Livingston & Sheeley (2008) and Criscuoli & Ermolli (2008).…”

“…Figure 7 shows the CLVs of maximum contrast values measured for the various disk features and bandpasses. These results agrees qualitatively with published CLV measurements of bright features from full-disk continuum observations Criscuoli & Ermolli 2008, and references therein).…”

“…Meanwhile, other studies have been carried out that analyze some series presented here (Ermolli et al , 2009Criscuoli & Ermolli 2008;Foukal et al 2009;Tlatov et al 2009). The discussion of results obtained by all these studies will be presented in a forthcoming paper.…”

“…The Rome/PSPT data were deconvolved by using analytical functions defined from modelling the centre-to-limb variation of intensity in the data and instrumental PSF (Criscuoli & Ermolli 2008). The PSF here is modelled as the sum of three Gaussian and one Lorentzian functions, following Walton & Preminger (1999).…”
