Strategy to design a smart photocleavable and pH sensitive chitosan based hydrogel through a novel crosslinker: a potential vehicle for controlled drug delivery

Abstract: We report the synthesis of a novel photocleavable crosslinker and its joining with amine-based polysachharides, viz. chitosan, resulting in the formation of a dual stimuli-responsive hydrogel having UV- and pH-responsive sites.

“…Therefore, to prevent the oxidation of magnetic nanoparticles, a new approach should be considered, such as modifying the nanoparticles' surface with polymer groups or using a mold to prevent the nanoparticles from oxidizing for a specic structure, which can be useful approaches. 32,33 In the recent past, some green plant polymers ,34 such as nanober cellulose, lignin, and hemicellulose, polylactic acid (PLA), 35,36 chitin 37,38 and chitosan, 39,40 were considered. Among the various materials used as a mold to prevent oxidation of magnetic nanoparticles, cellulose nanober can be mentioned because of its many capabilities, including low cost, easy access, biodegradability, low density, excellent mechanical properties, and high level.…”

“…In addition, the time required to reach swelling equilibrium is also extremely important. This characteristic is pivotal for several precise applications, such as drug delivery and the design of scaffolds for tissue regeneration and repair [ 42 , 43 , 44 ]. Our study established not only the amount of water absorbed by the two type of systems but also their swelling profile, as in the computed parameters, i.e., equilibrium water content, (EWC, %) and swelling content (SC, g/g), providing important insights regarding the time required for the synthesized systems to reach the maximum hydration and also the maximum amount of aqueous media they are able to uptake.…”
