Computational thinking (CT) is an approach that applies the fundamental concepts of computer science to solve problems, design systems, and understand human behavior, which can help students develop lifetime learning and generate new topics. It has been the elements of competency expected of the next generation of talents. However, the current research on computational thinking evaluation is still at a relatively weak stage. The existing related evaluation research is still limited to traditional curriculum evaluation methods. Therefore, the training effect of computational thinking cannot be well quantified, and the characteristics of students cannot be further explored. In this work, we propose a three-way decision model for improving computation thinking. We first developed a system of evaluation metrics, including five specific primary indicators and several secondary indicators. Next, the weight of each indicator was determined by applying an expert similarity measure, consequently getting the best metric sequence. We employ a grey correlation analysis to calculate the distance of each test result from this optimal sequence. Then, we trisect the set of testers based on the distance to build three regions of high score sequences, medium score sequences, and low score sequences inspired by the three-way decision. We can then exploit these rules on target students in the relatively low regions to improve their computational thinking. An example analysis illustrates the effectiveness and applicability of the method. This article provides a solid theoretical basis for improving students’ computational thinking ability. Teaching administrators can conveniently formulate computational thinking teaching strategies, and timely warning and intervention for students with poor computational thinking ability can effectively improve students’ computational thinking ability. The corresponding training measures are given to students of different ability levels to achieve differentiated and personalized training.

Three-Way Ensemble Prediction for Workload in the Data Center

Accurate prediction of the cloud data center workload used to improve resource utilization and reduce energy consumption, is a vital methodology and technology in cloud computing. However, the workload presents a quasi-volatile, is challenging to obtain accurate results in cloud resource management. In this paper, the three-way ensemble prediction for workload in the data center is first proposed to improve the accuracy of the prediction. Moreover, we first defined the workload as the stable period, the volatility period, and the jitter period and adopted a simulated annealing algorithm to learn the optimal threshold to divide the workload. Then, according to the basic idea of the three-way decision model (i.e., TAO model), we assigned various prediction models based on workload characteristics and a priori error prediction to improve the prediction accuracy further. Finally, all the experimental results carried on the CPU load monitoring logs from Google cluster trace and compared with ARIMA, NN, and DMASVR-3WD, TWD-RCPM improve the accuracy of workload prediction by 69.0%, 68.6% and 72.6%, respectively.INDEX TERMS three-way decision, three-way division, cost assessment, load prediction, cloud energy consumption I. The trisecting-acting-outcome model is a methodology of “thinking in threes,” which is the main idea of the three-way decision (3WD). It consists of three components: trisecting, acting, and outcome evaluation. A strategy selection method in a movement-based three-way decision (M-3WD) has been proposed in previous work. However, conflicting information widely existing in the information system has not yet been given sufficient consideration. The conflicting information brings massive noisy strategies when mining action strategies in three regions. This paper proposed a novel three-way decision model for action strategy set, which can analyze and classify strategies by introducing credibility and coverage. The model can remove noisy strategies and choose strategies more suitable for the need of decision makers. To evaluate and select an optimal action strategy, we analyze the probabilistic preference in a movement-based three-way decision. The approach determines the probability of movement by using the evidence theory (D-S) theory. The optimal action strategy is selected by analyzing the difference between the ideal movement and the actual movement, the lower the difference, the better the strategy. We give an example of medical decision-making to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
