Asian J Ethnobiol 5: 121-129. Situated at the "heart" of Abidjan, Banco National Park (BNP), Ivory Coast, is the rare relics of moist, dense rainforests coveted everywhere. This work was undertaken with an aim of identifying the plants most usually used by the riparian population of BNP in human food, animal food, and pharmacopeia. An ethnobotanical survey was carried out of the riparian population of the BNP. The method consists of an ethnobotanical survey realized among the inhabitants of the park and those of the surrounding urban districts. The method used was semi-structured interviews. This study targeted 294 people, including 20% men and 80% women, aged between 30 and 60. A total of 36 plant species from 34 genera and 28 families were recorded. Thirteen species were used in food, three fodder species, and thirty others used to treat several ailments in the area. Two of these plants have strong ratio utilization in human food: Myrianthus arboreus P.Beauv. (15.25%) and M. libericus Rendle (14%). Thus, in the area study, five species are respectively considered threatened and three species rare. Leaves (32.55%) and bark (20.93%) are the most used organ. Decoction (98%) was the most common traditional medicine preparation method. Indigenous knowledge distribution in the community showed significant differences (p<0.05) in the study groups for factors of age, sex, gender, and educational level. The number of resources used can seriously impact the forest negatively. It is urgent to adopt a lasting management plan for sustainable harvest for the safeguard and preservation of the plant cash of the BNP.

“…Data on phenology of fruit plants eaten by mangabeys were recorded visually with binoculars the last week of each month along defined transects (Ngueguim et al, 2011). Fruit plants included only trees and shrubs with a Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) ≥10cm (Tiebre et al, 2014) and lianas with a DBH ≥5 cm (Nascimento and Laurance, 2002) from 42 species constituting the diet of mangabeys. These plants were inventoried in 40 botanical plots of 2,000 m² each created along four linear transects of 2 km length each, equally spaced by 500 m. The area covered by the four transects represented more than 80% of our study group territory.…”

Within social groups, feeding competition and predation pressure affect individual spatial position. The costs and benefits associated to each position are likely to influence the time that individuals allocate to different activities. Whether the effect of spatial positioning on activity budget differs between individuals of different sex or dominance rank remains unclear. This study aimed at investigating the effect of within-group spatial position on the activity budget of male and female sooty mangabeys. Focal behavioral observations was used to collect the individual location and behavior every 15 minutes (N=5115 locations) on 29 individuals from a wild group of sooty mangabeys (Cercocebus atys) in the Taï National Park. The joint effect of rank, sex and spatial position on individual‟s activity budget was investigated. Females were more central in the group and both fed and rested more than males, independently of their rank. High-ranking individuals from both sexes were more likely to be central and both fed and rested longer than low-ranking ones. Females and high-ranking individuals from both sexes benefit from their social status by adopting spatial positions in the community that could influence their fitness positively. These results are discussed to improve our understanding of social dynamics in wild primates.Keywords: Spatial position, primates, socio-ecology, social dynamics.

The ruderal areas are starting points for invasion of natural ecosystems by invasive exotic plant. In this study we have inventoried all the invasive plants present in the PNB, highlighted their spatial distribution and followed their evolution of occupation of the soil. The floristic data were first collected by itinerant inventory in the study area. At the end of this inventory, six zones of strong presence of invasive plants were selected: under of high voltage lines, the roadside, the arboretum, the encampments (destroyed encampment and current encampment), the periphery of the park and the portion of Anguédédou forest attached to park, which represents the not ruderal zone occupied by invasive species. Thereafter that of phytosociological records carried inside 203 permanent plots of 50 m². Inside each plot, all invasive species were inventory, counted, and their area of soil occupation was measured consecutive, from 2016 to 2018. 22 species counted, one of which proven invasive and 21 potentially invasive distributed throughout the park. Chromolaena odorata and Hopea odorara constitute a real threat to this park. The encampments, the periphery of the park are the most invaded places in the park. The spatio-temporal dynamics of the species species occupy 12,01 ha of the ruderal areas of the park and 126,84 ha taking into account the planted area of Hopea odorata is 3,68 % of the total surface of the park. These results will make it possible to anticipate and of coordinate actions in order to avoid the large-scale invasion of the park
